Waxwing with Apple and Winter Berries

Waxwing with Apple and Winter Berries

For some strange reason, I don't often paint waxwings. These exotic looking birds visit us here in the UK during the winter months,  feeding on hedgerow berries, in flocks of varying numbers.

I get the close detail from an old and much prized study skin and I'm struck by how similar their plumage is to that of a jays, with soft over-long feathers.
